PROTON THERAPY AND CYBERKNIFE IN INDIA
Proton therapy and CyberKnife in India
Advanced radiotherapy targets tumours precisely while sparing healthy tissue. Delhi NCR hospitals offer IMRT, IGRT, stereotactic radiotherapy and CyberKnife. Proton therapy is available at only a few centres in India. We help you understand which suits your cancer.
Medical recommendations come from your qualified treating clinicians.
Types of advanced radiotherapy
Your radiation oncologist chooses the technique based on the tumour type, size and location:
- IMRT and IGRT: precise, image-guided radiation used for many cancers
- Stereotactic radiosurgery and SBRT: high doses in a few sessions for small tumours
- CyberKnife: a robotic stereotactic system for selected brain, spine, lung, liver and prostate tumours
- Proton therapy: useful for some childhood cancers and tumours near critical organs

Why radiotherapy costs differ
The main factors are:
- The technique
- The number of sessions (fractions)
- Planning scans and immobilisation
- Chemotherapy given at the same time
Where proton therapy is available
Proton therapy is available at only a few centres in India, and not in Delhi NCR at present. For most cancers, photon techniques such as IMRT, IGRT and stereotactic radiotherapy give excellent results. If your oncologist recommends proton therapy specifically, we explain the options.
How long to plan for in India
Stereotactic treatment and CyberKnife may take one to five sessions over about a week; conventional courses run for three to seven weeks, five days a week.
Choosing a radiotherapy centre
Ask which technique the team recommends and why, how many sessions you need and what side effects to expect.
