KIDNEY TRANSPLANT COST IN INDIA

Kidney transplant cost in India

Every transplant is different, so there’s no fixed price. We get you a free written estimate from experienced transplant hospitals, and explain the donor rules and paperwork before you travel.

Medical recommendations come from your qualified treating clinicians.

01

Why kidney transplant costs differ

The estimate is built around both the recipient and the donor. The main factors are:

  • Medical evaluation of the recipient and the donor
  • Whether the blood groups match, or an ABO-incompatible transplant is needed
  • Dialysis needed before surgery
  • Surgical approach, such as keyhole (laparoscopic) donor surgery
  • Hospital, surgeon and room category
  • Length of stay and any complications

What a transplant estimate usually covers

Ask each hospital exactly what’s included. A typical estimate may cover pre-transplant tests for the recipient and donor, surgery for both, the hospital stay and immunosuppressant medicines during the stay. These are often extra:

  • Dialysis before surgery
  • A longer stay
  • Treatment of complications
  • Medicines after discharge
03

Donor rules for international patients

India regulates transplants under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act. For foreign patients, the living donor is normally a close relative who travels with you. Your embassy or government must provide the required documents, and the hospital’s authorisation committee must approve the transplant. Buying or selling organs is illegal, and Orvica never assists with any paid organ donation.

04

How long to plan for in India

Plan for about four to six weeks in total. That covers evaluation, committee approval, surgery and early recovery near the hospital. The donor usually needs a shorter stay. Your hospital confirms the timeline after reviewing your reports.

05

Choosing a hospital and specialist

Compare hospitals on the specialist’s experience with your treatment, the written estimate and what it includes, and how follow-up will work once you are home.
